    Blank keys?

What's a good place to order an OE blank key from other then the stealership? Nearest dealer to me is an hour away. Mine is wearing out and its a random blank anyway. I'd like a BMW one if possible.

Anyone had experience with eBay keys?

There's plenty of places with blanks...but I was looking for OE BMW blanks.

bmwextreme had them though! Two of them and an OE BMW leather key case, pretty cool...lol.

If you manage to find an OE blank outside of a dealer I would be surprised. You can take whatever blank + old key (junkyard is a great source), carefully remove (cut the side of and gently pry) the plastic cover on the old one, modify the new blank to fit if needed and glue the old plastic cover on.

I purchased a set of OEM keys from Pelican a while back. $25 dollars each for genuine BMW illuminated keys. I plan on taking them into the dealer to get them cut, but I haven't gotten around to it yet...

Neat, did any E30s originally come with lighted keys or were they just dealer gimmick/purchase?

I believe the illuminated key was standard. I have what appears to be an original key with a missing light bulb... it's pretty worn out.

Thats the same key blank that my 87 Cabrio came with so I suspect its original. Im wondering though, since its steel and double cut by the time you find and pay someone to match it to your old worn out key it may be smarter to just get a new VIN cut key from the dealer

I haven't seen that illuminated one. I kinda want one now, lol. If you can find a hood locksmith that buses a real manual key cutter, they can match it perfectly.

The one on pelicanparts says its for 318i sedans, 318 cabrios and 318i coupes with M10 engines. Guess the 318is didn't come with them.

I can get new lighted and non light key blanks prices when up a lot since I bought 2 about 8 years ago, with the one site posted I don't know if it is for the complete blank or just the lighted portion? I am told by my friend who works at the dealership that the light key came in 2 parts the key blank and the lighted portion. I have a complete key set from a mint condition bmw my family used to have. Back in the 1980's many models came with 4 to 5 keys and a key code tab, 1 was a valet key only worked steering the other semi master working driver and steering other 2 or 3 were master working all locks the lighted key came standard on most cars along with the basic black key blank. It all depended on dealerships and models what came with what and how it came. Some even came with free key pouches. There were always exceptions to the rule but for most cases that is how some of them came.
