That what I've seen in with my parent's new cars from the early 90s. A master illuminated key, a spare and a valet. Plus a single replacement master and valet key that didn't have the plastic grip.

I've been wanting to LED mod my illuminated keys buy I don't need a bulk bag of diodes just 2.

You might want to check around your area for who can cut a steel key blank. The original keys (and replacements from the dealer) are steel. They will last much longer than the brass key blanks sold at hardware stores for a dollar or two. The problem is that even locksmiths won't cut a steel key (at least I haven't found one willing here in Chicago).
I have the key code (it is just the tumbler numbers, in order, from when I rebuilt the lock cylinder).
The choices seem to be: cut/file the key yourself, or order it from the dealer/Pelican, etc.

hey I bought one of the new BMW lighted blanks sold on ebay/amazon/pelican.

it is a nice key and genuine BMW but the plastic is lesser quality than the original lighted key on my old E30. I've sanded it a little and that helped. i got it cut (for free) at ACE hardware and it works well.
