Interesting stuff, this acetone in gas. I just read the wiki on it, or at least skimmed it.

Hafta try it in the Astro...gas pig that it is.

back to 87 for me until I get a chip then! Woohoo saving more money. Anyways what's the purpose of the acetone? Does it help clean anything out?

          87. It runs fine.

I have to run 93 in the Lexus. I stopped on a trip recently and could only get 91 and it pinged like shit.

Increases gas mileage and a cleaner running engine.

It breaks the surface tension of gasoline and allows it to be ionized more efficiently by you're injectors. Recently Got 32mpg averaging 75mph from Knoxville -> Chattanooga and back. In the city I get about 29-28mpg.

            Same here.

It seems like I meet alot of people that say anything over 87 is a waste, consequently they're the same people that are always bitchin' about the price of gas but have engines that sound like big pieces of shit. This is especially true during the summer time here in the south. 87 octane isn't nessesarily a "hotter" burning fuel more it just ignites at a much lower temperature than 89, 91, & 93. Thus the reason it causes pre-detonation / engine ping.

Furthermore, if what some of you said about 91-93 octane not burning all the way was true then my plugs would be fouled with black carbon and my O2 sensor would be completely pointless.

Ive been using 87 since I bought my 325i, but just recently out of curiousity, I used 93 on my empty tank, and the engine was a lot quieter. Maybe its just me, but I think I might have to stick with the 93.

In my area we only have 87, 89, and 93. 89 is too low IMO now, so 93 it is. I do plan on gettin the MarkD 93 octane chip anyways.
