    coding plugs revisited

My quest for an answer on this has come up again as I am trying to hook up my 7k tach once more, so as not to run it too high in the rpms, and so I can actually know where the engine is at when it flys past my 5k eta redline.

Anyway, I have the tach, and the complete gauge cluster actually. Its a motometer (euro). When I put the complete cluster in, I get false tach readings. It reads just like the eta tach does. When I put the tach and plug into my current cluster it does the same thing, eta tach operation. Hell I can run the car without the white plug and the tach operates just like normal. The only thing that changes is the economy gauge. It reads much lower (using more fuel). No difference in tach operation.

    Any ideas?

maybe you have to change speed reference sensor as well?

Either the S.I board is acting up, or you do have the incorrect coding plug.

You should be running an I plug, perhaps the one you have is incorrect? or its from a 318is?

I have never tried running mine without the plug, but it does sound like something is up as its not even reading the plug with it not installed.

If the speed reference sensor was failing the engine would not run correctly

So if its from a 318 it could be wrong? I have tried switching SI boards with no luck. I got the cluster from marakka and I think he believed it was a 325i but I cant be sure. I will try to get another coding plug.
