    help on my 318 1984

My car stalls out, I replaced wires & spark plugs, rotor & cap, fuel filter. Most the time it runs great. Then while driving it acts like its getting no gas.
    Wondering if anyone could help.
    Thanks

it seems like every 84 318i is set to self-destruct at 22 years.... my car has the same problem, at this point in time, it seems to be the afm. i think kencopperwheat's has a similar problem, you should ask him if the afm has fixed his problem. another 84 318i on another message board is having very similar symptoms, his problem has been diagnosed as a lack of fuel. another 84 318i on that other messageboard has been down a list of 8 or 10 defective parts and still has those symptoms.

best advice: check the bentley and troubleshoot from there, once you figure out what the problem was, post back here with the solution so other people can gain from your experience.

          .

          yup, thats me.

Car was studers and bucks only at random mostly cold times. and then all of a sudden it died. Changed both full pumps, ended up being the inline fuelpump. so the car no longer dies, but still has the studdering problem.

Have you checked the fuel pump regulator?

add one more to the random studdering.. i've replaced just about everything but the fuel pump, it feels like it does it more when it's real cold outside or when i'm getting low on fuel maybe?

What's weird is sometimes when i feel it hesitating i'll give it a good downshift and it'll disapear the rest of the drive. Hopefully it magicaly fixes itself by next autox in march :(

oh god, were dropping like flies. run the afm test first, if downshifting "solved it", its almost definetly something related to engine speed or load. if you have money to throw at it or enough to do some "preventative maintenance", try a new fuel pump and see if that does it. have you replaced your fuel filter yet?

yeah i read that in the other thread, and I'm not sure if he's referring to it being hte cause of it dieing, or hesitating( maybe both?)

I'll have to check mine out, it does rev really high when i start my car, maybe it's getting too much fuel...?
