Dash lights are dim not sure why

All my bulbs are good the orange covers are not melted and I replaced the headlight switch rheostat is all the way up

What am I missing.

Dying alternator

A poor ground or some aftermarket electronics drawing power from the circuit are possibilities.

where is the ground for the dash lights?

The instrument cluster ground in on the firewall above the pedal box.
