    What's wrong with my speedometer?

I want to know what part has gone wrong and what I need to change, or even if its a fuse. My speedometer doesn't work but at times it'll jump up and work for a second then go back down. Also my odometer doesn't work. I don't know if that matters. Someone please help. Thanks in advance!

First change your old fuses with new. Do 10, 21, and 12. All 7.5 amp.

Next is to check your connector at the speed sensor in the rear differential. It must be very clean and very secure.

I had the same problem when it rained. Speed sensor was having problems in the wet, put a new one in and POOF! problem is gone.

I solved my problem, my speedo did the exact thing you describe and i fixed it today by pulling out the plug that plugs to the speed sensor. I pinched the connectors pins with pilers so that it plugs into the sensor for a tight fit.

^^^ I did this today and so far it's working. I even put my new gears in I had bought a couple of months ago. While the speedo dissassembled on the bench with the new gears it worked. When installed they didn't. :(
I'll wait till I have to remove the cluster again (a job I don't like to do) to tackle the problem. For now, I don't have to guess how fast or slow I'm going! :D

nice! i figure since its jumping it has to be a bad contact problem, and since then i havnt had no issues.

                  For the odo gears,

Loosen the screws for the plastic cover a bit. Just barely tighten them, if too tight, gears won't turn.

Sounds like the simple connection problem. Did You get it checked. Show it to some mechanic and try for repairing. If doesn't works get the meter changed.

Same problem - the wires from the sender to the speedo had got brittle and broke off. Ran a new wire and it was as good as gold
