    the great m10 hesitation/stalling/cooldown thread

since so many of us are having the same problem, i thought itd be best to put everyone's stuff in the same thread so that we can figure out what's going on and how to fix it.

Symptoms: seemingly random stalling, sometimes acompanied by hesitation and a required cooldown time before the car will turn over or run again (10-20 min). stalling is temperature independant.

Parts that people have replaced so far, with no affect on this issue:

    spark plugs
    spark plug wires
    cap & rotor
    FPR
    Coolant temp sensor and connector
    both fuel pumps
    fuel filter
    fuel pump relay
    oxygen sensor
    afm

parts that are likely to cause the symptoms:

    icu
    loose wires
    csv

I've heard that a clooged FPR can be the cause. Also , m10's are very timing sensitive. Make sure its dialed in correctly.

But both of these fixes are irrevelant to engine temps. I would have to guess ecu. Put a wide band with a A/F gauge on it and check you ratio's. Atleast you can eliminate possible fuel issues.

          Most likely the culprit.

                yeah, same thing

I'd test it before you get a new one. The Bentley has the procedure... it's fairly simple, but you need two people.

would testing it really prove all that much? it seems like the problem only happens occasionally. so that means whatever is messing up only messes up occasionally and when I test it, the problem will mostlikely not be happening

so i think ive got my problem pinned. i ASSumed that l-jetronic could deal with 325i injectors because they're just barely bigger then 318i injectors. turns out l-jetronic is stewped and cant adjust to bigger injectors. the car's been running rich and flooding just barely enough to prevent the sparkplugs from firing.

well maybe im on to my problem. the car has been with my dad while ive been down at school so he could try to find the problem. So i called him up and told him to check the cold start valve. what do ya know??? after driving it, he poped the hood and looked at it and he said it looked like gas was leaking out of where the hose goes into the cold start valve. So we are on to checking that now.
