    electric fan help please!

hey so I wired up a Volvo fan to my 318is a while ago and has been working fine no problems.. I would just have to hit the a/c button to turn it on..... I just installed a e36 lower temp sensor to turn it on automatically... once I installed it.. I re-bled my system and my fan wont turn on at all.... not even if I hit the a/c button... anyone have any suggestions what it could be? relay maybe?

sorry if this doesn't make too much sense just got homefrom the bar, thanks guys

oh and I bled my system like 4 times and it over heats when im stopped even worse now than it did before... I know its prob because of bad bleeding but I cant get it to stop overheating

Is the temp sensor the right type for the relay (which is?) you're using? Is the ac switch wired as a bypass? Looks like you need to do a little current hunting. I'd first throw some voltage directly to the fan to make sure it works. Then test your "bypass" switch. Try to work around each piece of the issue to rule out each possible failure...you either have the wrong type of temp switch, you've shorted something out, the fan died, or the relay took a dump. Its all pretty straight forward from there.

I do not know if its the right type for the relay.. I needed a 88 degree ensor from a 318ti which is what I got its the one I need whichc should trigger the fan to turn on sooner... but even with the stock sensor.. it would never turn on automatically which it should have once my car hit like the 3/4 mark.. so im not sure what could be to make my aux fan not turn on... I am not good with electrical stuff so im kinda lost when it comes to searching for the issue here..... how can I check the relay
        "?

if your heater blows hot when at 2/5 mark and beyond, you can stop bleeding it, it is bled. The e36 temp sensor you put in could be bad, or your fuse blown (up it to 30a if not already using that). You should have two harness plugs hooked up. One for the power to the fan (driver side headlight area) and another three prong to the temp switch sensor (pass. headlight area).

all that is hooked up but get this guys: I just went out there... cut the three wires that are wired to the fan from the aux harness and re wired them.. hit the a/cv buttom and it turned on!.. so I wired it all back up.. soldered it together and then hit the a/c button again.. and it doesn't work now and I cant get it to work at all anymore?? wtf guys idk wat it could be... im lost

p.s. the fan works fine I touched the wires to the battery

Why not go back to square one when everything worked before you put the temp sensor in. are you sure you aren't blowing fuses or possibly a loose ground. After all you were messing around in there. :-)

I also noticed in my early model cars that your heater sliders need to be in a certain position for the A/c switch to work. I can't remember which position but I didn't have mine set right and as a result my aux fan wouldn't come on. you may want to see if the blue light illuminates with the sliders. I don't know why the car is wired as such but once I figured it out everything worked fine.

I checked the ground for the aux wire harness its all good... Ac button lights up and works fan does not come on.. All I did was unhook old sensor out of the radiator and screw the new one back in then plug it back up... All fuses are just fine none are blown.... N wat are the heater sliders???

Heater sliders are the 3 horizontal sliders.

Make sure the car has warmed up and idling with the temp outside to be around 60.

Put the all the sliders to right. rotate the temp dial quarter turn to warm; put blower fan on.
Press the a/c button in and you should get the a/c light to come on. comp should come on and aux fan should come on. check them.

If you move the center slider to the far left the a/c light will go out, comp will turn off and aux fan will turn off.

if you move the bottom slider to the center your a/c light comes on, comp turns off and aux fan stays on.

try these: I suspect you might have the functions not set up right for your aux fan to operate properly.

ok so i wired up my fan and hit the a/c button and it turned on for 6 seconds then shut off again and now will not work... i jumpered the wires at the radiator sensor and it still did not turn on..... i unplugged my relays and they both low speed and high speed did not click... so whats this mean?>

No power to the relay? Check your fuses, then check the relay, then check the fuses again. Could be shorting something out.

No fuses have blown at any point through anything I have done.. I continue to check them all the time and not one has blows... a guy I was talkin to mentioned replacing the diode under the fuse box with a piece of wire and see if it help..... but its weird because I have to in plug battery and disconnect the fan and re wire it to make it work again... and only for 5 seconds then stops haha

I would start with a whole new wiring harness that works only off a separate temp sensor/probe. Find a new power, keyed on power, and ground. The whole kit is less than 30 bucks from an autozone.

So it's its own harness? Tap into a constant power and my own ground and comes with its own sensor as well? How does it read temp? Through the coolant somehow?
