          I installed two sets of belts on each side of my car. Double the protection.

              they're probably made of better material than 2 year old seat belts. :p

              but if they aren't frayed it really doesn't matter..

                Those belts hold up pretty well if they are not frayed, I 'ave seen places where belts from an older car were used to tow and pull a vehicle from a ditch, what you should be worried about is whether the locking re-tractor mechanism is working as it should.

                  They can support the weight of an engine.

                  As mentioned, the retractor/lock mechanism is usually of more concern.
