    I cluster to e car.

I've searched and can't get the answer for this. Can I put a late model motometer cluster in my 84 e car that has a vdo cluster in it now? Thanks.

    Yes.

Ok thanks, found a good one for a good price. My e cluster has multiple issues and I'm doing a 24v swap soon so I'll need the 7k tach.

You can, but if the cluster is from an I/IS/IC car produced from 9/87 on you will have to swap in an early fuel gauge.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ok, that's one thing I was wondering. And I suppose the early fuel gauge in my early e vdo cluster won't work in the late motometer cluster?

You can check the part numbers, but I think the gauge for both cluster variants are the same.

That's right, swap the gauge. They are all interchangeable.

Running it fine in my car for about a month now, when swapping tachs make sure you change out the chip in the front of the cluster so it knows you have an e tach in there. Otherwise the tach will read incorrectly

But the early models have the chip in the back not front so is it still possible to have a working tach?

Ive personally ran few cluster on my previous eta, and of I remember right all my tachs work.

im in the same situation. ive asked around and it seems i can plug and play my early e cluster with a later i cluster. I'll swap out my early fuel gauge. I know my early has a 5k redline compared to the 7k in the late cluster... can i just swap the tach's? Ive read so many conflicting posts asking similar questions and dont really see a solid response.

Early and late model clusters are not compatible other than swapping the fuel gauge I believe. VDO and Motometer clusters are all interchangeable as long as they are both late or both early.

I think you could put a late i cluster into and early e car, you would just have to keep the late coding plug with the late tach. The will rear correctly, it will just go up to 7k instead of 5k. It won't change your redline either. Ignition cut will still happen at 5k.

Someone correct me if I am wrong though.

Before putting in the new cluster, were the odometer gears replaced?
