    Fuel pump help

Just installed a new fuel pump and fuel filter in my friends car and it still won't start. I don't hear the fuel pump working so I know it's not getting power and when I put a amp mettor too the positive and negatives on the pump it doesn't show it's getting anything. All fuses are good and the fuel relay is getting electricity cause I checked, also plugged in my working relay from my car and put it in his car and still won't start. Please help!!! oh car is a 87' with the external fuel pump. Also has spark

Not sure, It was pumping the 150 mile trip to take the car home and 10 min after letting the car cool and trying to start it again it didn't start and hasn't since then (3 days ago)

Replaced the pump that goes inside too, believe its called the fuel transfer pump. Before we had the main fuel pump comnected and only transfer pump inside fully installed (were checking the ohms on the main pump) a bunch of gas pumped out the hose once cranked so that pumps working, not the main pump... Unless it just squirted all the left over gas that was in the hose

Have you checked fuse 11 (the pump fuse)? Is there power at fuse 11 and at both pumps when cranking? If there is no power at fuse 11, the DME may not be commanding the fuel pump relay to turn on. Which could be a lack of timing data to the DME, a DME power/ground problem, or even a bad DME. If there is power at fuse 11 but not at one or both of the pumps, there is a wiring fault between the fuse and the pumps or a ground problem for the pump circuit.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Re checked the fuel relay, positive is connector 30 according to the Bentley so I plugged it into that and grounded it on the shock mount and read the battery voltage, so I know it's getting power. I also checked fuse 11 and it's NOT getting power while the motor is cracking, key is in position 1 or anything. Where should I go from here? The dme is in the glove box I think right? The black plug at the top of the hanger could be in backwards

Is there spark at the coil out when cranking the engine? If not look to the timing reference sensor(s). the main relay, and the fusible link.

2 things that could go wrong with that-

-are you sure the ground isn't the pole that's switched?

                  - is it actually capable of driving any current? You might get voltage, but when a load is applied, it drops to zero because it's 'almost' open. (your meter doesn't present any load to speak of)

I removed a spark plug and rested it on the shock mount and I saw spark so there's spark. Also disconnected that last fuel line that goes into the engine and put a cup to it to see if it would fill and it didn't so fuel is defenetly not making it to the engine.

By switched if you mean plugged in wrong there no way cause the car was running 5 days ago and now it's sitting in the driveway. I tried to bridge the conectors (I think it's 87 and 30, either way that's off the top of my head and If those 2 are wrong I did the right ones because I searched before) and didn't bother to check fuse 11 til the next morning but it was blown so doing that blew the fuse cause It was fine before that, even replaced it when it didn't look like It needed to be

Got the car running today, ended up being that wire that goes too the positive terminal on the battery. Some dumb ass spliced into it and used a wire 3x smaller then the stock one so I put in a good thick coper wire like BMW used and it fired right up.
