    Guess that noise game!

Alright well its not really a game just a question.

I was at the post office today shipping off an item for rwh11385 and i was cruising along at a very low speed to find a parking spot and all of a sudden i started to hear this noise a noise like a wheel is loose or about to fall off and it was coming from the left side on the rear and so i assumed it was the spare tire that must have worked its way loose so i find a parking spot and i got out popped the trunk and grabbed the lug wrench and all four bolts are nice and snug. :?

What is going on why is my rear making a loose tire type noise?

Is my 2.93 LSD going out?

Help me out guys i am already going to have to spend 300 on parts for the tune up and i dont really feel like swapping a 3.73 LSD into my car and having really short gears.

Honestly i dont have any more money to pour into this car for the next 2 months

have you checked your wheel bearings for play or ruffness? Have you check your tire, a shifted belt makes some funny noises.

i need more info to diagonse this.

Hard to say without hearing it, but I'd vote wheel bearings too.

i wish i could hang a microphone out the back window or off the side of the trunk and put some load on that side so u could hear it. :?

Im thinkin its the bearing also.

How harmful can this be if i let it go for awhile until i get the money to repair it or should i splurge some cash and replace it now?

well if you let it go, then it could all become one solid piece of dis-similar metals, and ytou would have to replace the entire hub assembly on that side..... and it would make sense to replace it on both sides if that happend.... if it is the wheel bearing replace both of them before it is too late.... could also be a diff mount or a CV joint..... have you ever had a tire fall off a vehicle on you? because if not then how can you say that it sounds like that? sounds are hard to describe, what you need to do is look at it closely or take it to someone who knows and let them hear the sound

i got a BMW shop less then a mile away and i know the owner pretty good maybe i can have him diagnose it.

You are right i have never had a wheel fall off but my dad has matter of fact it was an E30 also and my dad was with me today and he brought the noise to my attention.

He went and picked up my parts car and i had thought i snugged them lugs all down tightly and i guess i didnt do so and the wheel start to work its way off on his drive home, so my dad knows what a falling off tire sounds like. :P

But who knows really anyway i guess a shop is the only answer unless i want to go ahead and replace the bearing

Shock mount? Is it a clunking sound or squeky sound?

More of like a clunking sound.

Not really much in the way of a squeaking noise.
