E30 = Allergic to Oil?

      The order of assembly is thermostat, spring, cap, snap ring.

          I appreciate the help. Once I emptied the oil out of my ear I realized that could be the only way it could go back together. I was surprised that I couldn't find a diagram of it anywhere. Not even Realoem.

          Thanks Danny. I really thought the facepalm was for the oil in the ear. :o

          For perpetuity's sake, the "small amount of oil" that comes out is at least 10oz. About 1/2 of that right away and then a steady trickle after that.

          Another helpful hint for reassembly is, once the new cover is on and held in place with the clamp clean everything off with brake cleaner, and a lot of it.
          Needle-nosed vicegrips work well to hold/install the new clip.
