Originally posted by Ritalin KidATF has properties similar to brake fluid. Most hydraulic fluids tend to be corrosive. I'm not to sure if I would want something like that touching the internals of my engine.
My ex-roomate did this to his old 86 Porche 924 and it's never ran straight since.

I believe that hydraulic fluid is corrosive to certain metals. Most of the hardware in a brake system is brass for a reason even the bleed valve is brass.
When my ex-roomy finally decided to get rid of his Porsche it was because his uncle (who is a very experienced mechanic) said that his injectors were fucked and his so were his rings most likely because he put ATF in his gas tank. Something one of his stupid ass redneck buddies told him to do.
Check out some links I've read on the subject:

Seriously, go buy some Rotella 15W40 heavy truck oil. Lots of detergent for cleaning out carbon deposits and sludge. Run it every other oil change, you'll notice a difference right away. The pickup I owned for three months in the summer was dog slow, did an oil change with the high detergent oil, and bingo, fuel effeciency rose and power increased big time.
