Has anyone put an ETA intake mani on an I head?

I've been talking with Dan Teague (modifiede30) about the benefits of using the ETA manifold on an I engine - the longer, thinner runners would provide more torque than the shorter, wider runners of the stock I manifold, which is better for top end. As I'm mainly concerned with torque, not HP, this may be an option for me.

Has anyone fitted one to an I car, or know if there are any issues with it?

If your curious do it any find out. I'm pretty sure you'll take it off.

Certainly made a difference in my car to drop the eta intake and add motronic 1.3.

I had listened to the rumors of longer runners and smaller ports, but it sacrifices too much top end IMO. I did not notice a low end loss what-so-ever by going to the i manifold.

hm. So you put the i manifold on the eta head, and noticed no low end loss and did see top end gain? Did it just bolt right on?

Which motronic is in my car? (stupid question, but I don't know.) It's an 87 325i vert.

Assuming you have the stock ECU, (153) then you are Motronic 1.1

Adding a 173 or higher ECU upgrades you to Motronic 1.3 (Better Idle, more Diag Codes)

Sold off all the parts I had, want to go with a stroker. I don't need an M50. I'd rather focus on the rest of the car, suspension, body, interior. Considered an M30, but a bit more work than I want to take on. So now I've got a super eta motor, a euro eta (11:1 compression) and a couple i motors - I'm gonna make something out of them :)

Hrm. So can I put a 173 ecu in my car plug n' play? Or do I need to swap the harnesses? Also, I have a 1991 325i (auto) - can I use that ecu and put my 153 in the auto car? :)

Yea, I dont have any faith in the eta intake manifold anymore after going to the i. With the i cam, minor port work, and the i intake (plus i motronic) Id say the low end >2500 is the same as regular eta, and above 3k its much better.

That harness will work, plug n play

Sort of. The super eta intake manifold is slightly different than the eta manifold, and the i head of the super eta only had single valve springs. It would also yield totally different results, since the super-eta bottom end is unique to that model.

Isn't the super eta manifold the same as an i manifold??

I don't think the super eta manifold is an i manifold.

Aren't the ports smaller on the eta manifold than the ports on an i head? You'd probably have to have it port matched if you wanted to do this. I wouldn't do it though, I think you'd lose more HP than the torque you'd gain. Our heads already flow shit, you'd just be making it worse.

super eta looks exactly like the reg. eta mainifold- from the outside. nothing even closr to the i mani.

probably a dumb question, but can you use 1.3 motronic on a completely stock eta or is that way bad for it?
