Rear shock tower ripped out. Fix, or part out?

My rear upper shock mount bushing starting clattering about a week ago. Today was the first day I had to repair it, went to AutoZone to buy new mount. Got home, and jacked up the car to find this:

Should I repair it? Or should I just part out the vehicle?

Car is still in awesome shape, but has 270k miles, and also have a baby coming in 2-3 weeks, hence the wife hates it only has two doors.....

    Rest of car:

Wow, how did that happen? Are you riding on the bump stop or something?

No. H&R Race springs, and new Bilstein shocks.

If the rest of the car is in good shape I'd fix it.

If not, I could use a driveshaft....

Investigate to determine how much cancer is in the area.

If it's minimal, welding isn't really that big of a deal.

If that's the only spot with rust that bad then fix it and keep going.
But I bet a large chocolate cookie with walnut pieces that there's terminal rust elsewhere.
Lift the carpets, take a look and ship me those seats and my cookie.

The rest of the car is pretty cancer free. That left area has always had some rust in the trunk from a leaky trunk gasket.

Totally fix it. I'm currently a welding student to learn a new skill for fun. I'll fix it for the cost of shop fee's if you let me gain some experience.

I remember what it was like right before the first kid... don't worry man, car life goes on after the mini human shoots out!

Yeah, crotchfruit a handful at first but things settle down after a while.

Coupe/sedan isn't all that important, the first part of kids is mostly stay at home anyways. Once they get big enough they'll buckle themselves.

My kids like the E30 better too.

Seriously though, the auto-hobby shop on fort Carson has the lift and welding equipment. Pay the shop fees and I'll weld that sucker back in place.

I'd have to tow it down there from Eugene. Tow there and fees would probably equal what it would be to have it repaired here

I'm going to call some shops tomorrow to get some quotes

It also happened to me not because of rust but potholes. I went to the yard, cut same piece off and bring to welder to weld it onto car. Using a different piece will result in a stronger weld according to the welder.

The shock tower isn't load bearing. Just remove the shock & drive it down!
