    Odd vent issue

'84 eta. My floor and uppers work perfectly, as well as the temp control. The dash vents blow air correctly for the fan speed setting, but they are always pulling in outside air. When it was cool outside this morning, I had hot air from the floor and upper vents, but the dash vents were blowing in cold air. No change when I push the recirculate button. I can shut off the dash vents with the slider, but I cannot control the air temp coming from them.

    Any ideas?

No responses, well, because that is some mind-boggling shit right there. I mean, the blend door and recirculation door should affect all the vents... what you need is a HVAC diagram. That'll contain the insight you need bro.

I was afraid of that. :)

It's definitely f'ing weird. The only thing I can think of is the fresh air flapper is stuck open in one spot that feeds to the dash vents. I was under the impression that all the vents pulled through the heater core at the same time... I guess not.

Ok... so this just hit me. Zero basis behind it, it's just that old german manufacturers used to do some wacky shit. Maybe there are separate doors for each vent 'type'? That might be the case, considering there's three sliders.

There could be an issue where the door is bound up for the 'middle' vents... although I'm really just pulling this out of my ass. Powers of deduction or whatever. Something to look in to?

Or someone stuck E36 vents in there, they can do that.... naw, that's not it, either!

Jalopi, you are probably on to something. Because out of nowhere, it's working fine now.
