    TOTALLY Noob Engine management Q...

Forgive me for asking what is probably a REALLY noobish question, but I've searched ALL of R3VLimited, and other forums/sites, with no conclusive answer.

I have an m20b25i with a 2.7 crank, 304 cam, 10.5/1 CR pistons, etc etc. And I want to TUNE the darn ECU to take advantage of all this stuff. WHAT COURSE OF ACTION DO I FOLLOW???

    Do I:

    1. Get a MAF conversion (as I think a piggyback won't work without it?)
    2. Get a piggyback chip that is (hopefully) loaded with a basemap and work from there?
    3. Get standalone EM?
    4. Have some company (e.g. Powerchip) program a DME chip and send it over?
    5. All or a combination of the above?

Keep in mind that I don't have access to a dyno, and I don't want to be spending over $2500. The less the better of course.

ANY clarification of ANY sort would really help.

Now this isn't my thing, but I'd make a list of detail/mods, and then have a chip programmed for these specs, so you'll have exactly (or pretty close) what you need. But that's my opinion.

a little more detail pls? Bear in mind that I have not done this before, nor do I have access to qualified technicians/programmers. I need something user-friendly.

VEMS or MS imo. SDS would be my third, Electromotive if I had money.

                no one likes smt-6?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.

Sorry Kamal...I figured you would be hip to aftermarket engine management.

VEMS: Vehicle Engine Management System. The Scandinavian groove, them guys rock the boost, YO! Very flexible and cheap. Uses MS code.

MS: MegaSquirt, the DIY brain that handles damn near anything. Was about $150 as a kit. TONS of user input. Excellent support from a few different forums.

SDS: Simple Digital Systems. Canadian. Need I say more? Them fuckers are only allowed in North America because they drive on the correct side of the street.
Excellent but simplistic stand alone system, with dashboard adjustability.

Electromotive makes the TEC II and TEC IV systems. Excellent, but spendy. I have not even looked at them in years 'cause I am poor.

Without a dyno, I don't see any sort of programmable software being useful. You can't tune any of them on the street.

I'd imagine you're pretty much stuck with a chip that is estimated by a good tuner to suit your specs.
