Hood ground cable?

    Hood ground cable?

    how important is that braided hood ground cable? mine just fell apart in my hand. i really see no benefit in having one, but obviously they didnt put it there for no reason. what should i do?

    I think its there for heated nozzles? if equipped. Someone chime in.

          lmao, my taurus sho had a hood ground cable and a couple of other of my cars, and they dont have heated nozzles? whateva.

            all joking aside I'm pretty sure it has something to do with a safety catch in the event your hood were to fly off in the general direction of the windshield...

            Appearantly you should feel REALLY safe considering they work so well...lol

              That cable is just an extra ground. Supposedly if it wasnt attached people thought you got extra radio noise. You don't need it. Don't worry about it.

                maybe it prevents static from dirt and such skimming across your hood while driving, or from the hoodliner.

                  Ding ding ding......we have a winner.

                  It's there to help with radio noise, I've had cars with and without it- and have not noticed a difference.

                  Rest assured though, that if BMW felt it necessary to spend the time + money to put it there- they must have come across a reason for it.... :)
