    89 e30 door lock

Ok so today I come outside to go to work... but when I tried getting in my car.. the lock did not turn at all.. I thought it was the key but I tried my other key and it doesnt work.. I opened it from the trunk but I cant lock my doors or anything.. the locks do not move at all... it is cold out, so im guessing that is why... what can I do to fix it? Wd40 would be enough?

      Don't use WD-40. Use something like 3-in-1 or Tri-Flow.

If oiling them doesn't work, the actuators in the door may be bad. Does the passenger side lock work?

The key wont turn on both pass and driverside.. trunk works.. the lock handles on the side of the door dont move unless I move them... when I put them in lock position and I shut the door the door closes and opens normally.. if I dont do that it doesnt close... and its wierd cause when I lock or unlock from the trunk door lock buttons dont go up or down and the door opens and sometimes doesnt open at first... idk what is going on... how to I grt to the lock it self

Ok so here is the update guys... I can only play alittle with the driverside lock and non with the passenger side... the passangerside keyhole is on unlock position.. the driverside key hole is stuck at lock postion... if I turn it all the way to take out the key from driverside u hear a little click (meaning its locked)... when I do that I cant even unlock or lock my car from the trunk... but if I turn it where I can take out my key without the click I can unlock and lock my doors from the trunk and it works perfectly.. so im ok with that as of right now.. but what do I have to do? Rebuild my driverside? Can I get a new lock?

Can you unlock the drivers' door from inside the car? If not... well, that's going to suck.

In any case, the arm on your lock cylinder is probably broken. This is what locks and unlocks the doors when you turn the key.

Make sure your inside door handle is 100% 'closed'. I recently had an issue where the handle would catch on the handle bezel and prevent the door from locking.

Either that or you 'double locked' your doors and then the arm on your lock cylinder broke. If that's the case, you're in for a world of frustration. Does your drivers' door open?

Aaah, well if that's the case (if your doors open and everything locks/unlocks from the trunk) you need a lock cylinder for the drivers' door. It's called a rebuild kit, but really it's an entire lock that you build from scratch.

You can buy it here from Pelican:

or you can get it from the dealership (surprisingly) for a few bucks cheaper.

Just pull your door panel first to confirm that the arm broke off on the lock cylinder.

Even if the doublelock arm is not broken the ball detent can wear a deep groove in the lock barrel with the same results. The rebuild kit would be a good plan.
