    Anyone change their firewall insulation?

While I have the motor and trans out Im pondering changing to a thinner silver backed insulation. Like this:

Anyone change theirs out? I havent found too many threads about it.

If by change out you mean remove, then yes, I have.

On the other hand, I'm sure that stuff would be fine. I think Dynamat works good too.

I definitely wanted to put something in there. A few people complained about heat from the floor boards.

I removed the OEM stuff on my track car while I had the engine and trans out, it was crumbling to pieces anyway. I put some stuff similar to OP's link on the transmission tunnel inside the car. I also removed the HVAC system and have the air supply hole completely open so I get a lot of fresh air coming in so this may not work as well on a car with the HVAC still in. Haven't had any heat issues.

When Josh (Hugo Stiglitz) did his engine swap, I recommended using peal and seal and that's what he used. This stuff:

Put it on the inside of the car like vpilarrt said. I've used it before and it has always worked great. Price is definitely right. Lots of MG guys use it as well for this exact situation.

pleasantly, there's a shit- ton of noise/heat damping material on the inside, too, so
            you can't go TOO wrong...

Holy crap that peel and seal stuff is cheap... how well does it insulate sound?

thanks for the recommendations. I will check on that peal and seal. I would be a bit concerned about it coming off under the high heat in the engine bay.

The stock insulation is hanging down far enough it makes it tough to remove the tranny, if I need to down the road.

It doesn't. I have been very frustrated with peel and stick heat/sound barrier. No fires yet so it resists heat fine but it sounds like I am sitting in the engine bay. Wish I could go back to stock but don't have a 1/4" to spare against the firewall.

Yeah, it will dampen vibration and block heat, but not insulate against sound.

i tried that peel and seal and it comes off. when it comes off it makes a mess, Ive done this on the rear part of my old car on the hatch section, i took off all the panels and covered everything and it worked good for awhile then some of the peel and seal just started coming off. i would'nt do it again.
