road trip tools

What's a good minimal tool box to bring on a road trip for an e30 in decent shape? Are there any socket sizes that I'll never use.. been trying to figure this out for a while - not counting specific task tools like spring compressors etc.. I know you can do a lot with just the stock toolkit too..

Pack as much as you can fit... floor jack is obviously a must. Also, fluids.

Thanks- bringing an extra oil pan and a fuel pump too. Getting concerned about weight though, driving from RI to Atlanta bringing some heavy music equipment too. Car's not slammed but it'll be ridin low. Probably still less than two passengers in weight tho.

Be sure your spare is in good shape and you have all the tools to change it.
Make sure your spark plug socket is in your tool kit
I bring 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 17mm, and 19mm wrenches with me.
Flashlight for sure, headlamp even better.
Multimeter or probe to test fuses quickly and easily.
Your trunk took kit has the basics so your good there.
Some extra hose clamps would be good also.

Most basic tool sets will cover 90% of e30 side of the road repairs I'd be more concerned with spare parts, spare fuel pump and cooling system stuff are nice to have along

Thankyou - definitely bringing fuses relays some hoses fire extinguisher etc.. I keep meaning to keep track of what stuff I just dont use - I'd not rather bring 5 different versions of a 16mm I never use or like admitting that 90% of the frequent e30 stuff can be done with 1/4" plastic handle ratchets from Harbor Freight MOST of the time.

Nothing stock I can think of but you never know what hardware has been replaced over the years unfortuntly lol

That's great, but not necessarily very convenient or useful in all situations. I'd much rather be able to fix something minor on my own and be on my way than need to wait somewhere (possibly in the dark and/or cold) for AAA to come.

Bring a quarter-inch drive set from Harbor Freight, it'll take care of everything up to 13mm. The open-ended 15, 17, and 19mm wrenches should cover the rest. I'd have the full set of toolkit wrenches for sure. Having window cleaner and a good amount of shop rags may come in handy as well.
