    Heater blower plastic flaps

Ok so i opend up where my heater blower motor sits and found out that who ever owned the car before me magled the plastic pieces to the point of where i had to just rip them out...

So now i got my blower motor to work but it wont blow air into the cabin because the plastoc flaps and shields where destroyed.

So what I want to know is that are those plastic bits part of the hvac system? Like if I bought a new hvac out of the junk yard would that replace the flaps? Or is that completely different part?

    Please help im freezing lol

If you are talking about the plastic parts that cover the blower, those could be replaced with parts from a salvage yard or new parts from a dealer. If the parts that are behind the blower, they are part of the HVAC housing and not separately replaceable.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yes im talking about the flaps that shutter open and closed and the covers that shield the blower. Im just nervous that there is more of anmess under there too so I may just pull my dash (wich I had planned anyway) and replace the whole hvac system. Is this difficult?

well depends on your definition of difficult if you change your oil is difficult and do not attempt this if rebuilding entire motor is easy piece of cake.

Exact same thing happened to me, only the flaps though.

Does the blower motor not work at all? Not even a little?

          Mines out right now.

My blower does work but no air comes out of the vents due to the plastic not being there. And 330smg im basically worried about all the wires and fitment. I do w want to take out my dash and hvac box and not be able to get it back in there or be able to get it to work.

And I have rmoved and rebult my engine before ;)

Just follow the DIYs (like this one: http://home.comcast.net/~cdeegan9/da...shboard_1.html) and label things well and you'll be fine.

The exploded diagrams at realoem.com can be very helpful as well. Put the last 7 characters of your VIN in there to get the proper diagrams, there were 2 different HVAC blower setups so depending on the year of your car which might make parts of the plastic surrounds/vents and heating unit different.

Quick way to tell is the typically-later style blower is a bit wider with only 1 section of fans on each side like this and the typically-earlier style is a bit wider with 2 sections of fans on each side. If you google image search "e30 blower" you'll quickly see both styles.

What exactly is the plastic parts purpose? To direct blower air flow?

Feel like I could ghetto rig it to work. Easier then a junkyard trip.

Kts thanks for the link. Im sure it wont be to bad iv just never done anything like this. Also I belive I have the early blower but ill have to double check.

And yes they do direct airflow but if they arent there it wont blow air out of the vents at all. And its hard to ghetto rig it bevause its in such a tight spot.

I just ran into the same problem this weekend. It started when my wiper linkage came apart while I was driving home. Long story short, I went remove the upper hvac housing and the blower motor and where the recirculation flaps attach to the lower housing broke. So I'm looking at replacing the hvac unit but are they the same in early and late model e30's? Are there any upgrades I should do while I'm replacing it? I'm not planning to keep my ac

AFAIK the flaps are the same in all models and they can be replaced from the engine side once the blower motor is out. It's tight and yes, it's a bitch, but as long as you don't break the VERY brittle white plastic link it can be done.
