    Winter tip to all r3vers!

Today I drove my vert just to have it run. I store it for winter. There was ice on the wipers and I didn't wipe it off. I tried activating the wipers and they were frozen. Didn't think twice.
The wiper motor caught fire and was burning. It smelled BAD but thought maybe it was the blower motor dying because it's noisy.
Do not activate your wipers if they're stuck guys!!

I've never had a problem on any other car. But apparently the e30 doesn't deactivate the motor. It just keeps trying.
    Happy winter motoring.

Yeah it was scary. Got out and smoke was coming out of the shroud on the drivers side. So I yelled fire and my dad ran to get the extenguisher. Didn't have to use it though. Poured a little water in there and it steamed. When driving the car, the smell was so bad it was burning my eyes.

Funniest part,.. The wipers still work. Haha.

I guess you can laugh about it now since the car didnt catch fire.

Yeah, checking the wipers is always the first thing I do in the winter, regardless of precipitation. I actually didn't know newer cars had a trip switch for frozen wipers...the more you know I suppose. I'm really glad nothing too bad happened to you.

Freezing weather? Flip the wipers away from the windshield in advance. On any car.

I had the SAME EXACT shit happen to me two weeks ago here in dallas. It was 14 degrees outside and I didn't think they'd stop trying. I cut the key off to get em to stop but once you put the key back on they'll still try.

Wipers still work but that smell lingers.

Pro tip: Move to a place that doesn't freeze over in the winter.

Don't use your wipers to clear off massive amounts of snow either. Great way to strip the splines on the arms.

Quit complaining...I have had over 25" of snow in this month alone. It is the first thing (pulling the wipers off the windshield) I do before starting my car. Rubber will stick to the windshield with just a bit of ice.

Mine stripped with only a half inch of snow. Left wiper went up, right one stayed put. :(

I let my car warm up for several minutes before I turn anything on. Once the windshield is warm the snow/ice just slides right off. No scraping required. I deal with this in Michigan so often.
