    Where do i start from Stock e30 ??

    Right i a have an 89' 318i, convertable (BAUR has i have recently learnt)..

    So my car is pretty much a stock 318i, so far i think the BAUR 'mods' stick it 2 inches lower with about 60 KGs (110 pounds) more wieght. you can see it on this thread http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=65106

    i have a few issues that im workign on fixing, and have a llist of things im doing to the car... but these thigns are cosmetic and minimal, im adding some electronics and such and fixxing up interior...

    Here is my Question: (now i know im going to get bashed for nto searching, but i dont know where to start ) ...im a mechanical nooob total car noob almost, i know how the engine works and what parts it is made up of, not much more, i am studying electrical eng, so that side i have a fair knowledge...

    i am not sure in what ways i can improove performance, or contorl or feeling ect... and also i dont have much cash for the car at the moment, but a rough idea of simple things to do to my car would be awesome, ill search for the stuff from there :p

    thanks in advance

        you mean a front strut bar;

        suspension is relatively easy... you'll need jackstands, a pickle fork, spring compressors and the other relevant hand tools.

        In addition to the bentley manual, there are a TON of DIY writeups online for almost any mod you would want to consider.

        having a good assortment of the right tools makes all the difference in the world. Just ask a lot of questions, start with small stuff to work up your knowledge/feel of the car, and than hit the more major stuff.

        Check your car out, start changing wear items if they need it (fluids, hoses, paper filters, etc.), try changing your own oil. Take the wheels off, check your brake pads and rotors, etc. Shocks and springs might happen after that.

        Get a multimeter and learn how to use it. There are a bunch of electrical/battery/alternator tests in the bentley manual that can really help you understand the fundamentals of the car's electrical system.

        Just be patient and careful when you work. I'm sort of a klutz, so it sometimes takes me a few times to get something done right. I'm still having fun...
