    acceleration calculations on a simulator...

    update: 3/7/06

after going through this again in the morning i must have been a bit foggy in the head. I adjusted the time per shift .35 seconds instead of .50 that it had it at along with re-analyzing the data.

Originally i thought the m50 swap was the fastest with the E36 trans and 3.25. this is not true. The 3.25 and the e36 trans is going to better benefit higher hp/torque cars. maybe those with the s50 would like this better. or a chip/cam/maf/headers m50.

but the m50 2.5L is turning out to like the getrag 260, showing about a .10 sec margin over the e36 trans 0-60.

according to the computer. i know nothing can be perfect, but its interesting to see at the very least.

i also have done up some excel files where you can plug in the various #'s like tire size, gear ratio, rear end ratio, to figure out your exact speed in any gear.

How about for using the e30 getrag 260 trans?

Sweet! I believe diffsonline has a calculator with these exact parameters as well. Heh. Anyway did you use the torque curve to calculate the acceleration?

i used a program called "car-test" its fairly basic but has proven to be pretty accurate for most comparisons. the 1/4 mile times the simulator does always seem a little low. it would say that my old jeep 5.9L would never have been able to run a 14.62 @ 93mph 1/4 mile unless it was making alot more hp than it could have been. all it had was headers, k&n FIPK, exhaust w/ no cat, and a built trans/shift-kit/stall converter.

yeah i can do the getrag simulation and see what it says.

ok so i have been tinkering with this a little.

so far with a getrag 260 and assuming you put 245/40/17's on the back the fastest diff is the 3.73. if you are running 215/40/17's out back then the fastest is the 3.46.

i'm going to re-do the e36 trans #'s with this updated tire size in the back. this is all 1/4 mile stuff so the bigger tires get better traction.
