Your shop is full of shit. It's the Italian tune-up. End of story. :)

I ran a can through my car last weekend. Before I had to use either mid-grade or premium gas to keep the car from knocking. I can now run regular with no knocking. Of course I was pretty sure I had some carbon build up, and that was all I was trying to clean.

          What is seafoam made of?
You can decarbon an engine with water too, through the vacuum line.
Obviously dont put it in the oil or fuel.

Italian tune up, haha. I love that method.

At least for me it improved throttle response and got rid of some hesitation.

            It's worth $5 a can.

My car drove fine before, so I guess I shouldn't have expected any real improvements. I was mainly hoping for improvements in my MPG, and it's too ealry to tell if that's going to happen.

You can't fix what is not broken. be happy, your engine was probably well maintained and had no problems that seafoam could fix. I wish that happened to more cars.

reviving this thread because I just gave seafoam a shot. Added about 1/3 of can to fuel tank and 1/3 in the oil. Let it sit for bout 10 mins then sucked the remaining 1/3 of the can thru the fuel regulator hose. Turned engine off, reconnected hose to intake and tried to start the car. Took a good 10-15 seconds of cranking to get the car started during which I got lots of smoke. Took it for a hard drive and didnt get too much more smoke. Car "feels healthier" (placebo effect im sure), but can't complain for $6 a can.... now its time to change the oil.
