    FPR? Coil? Vacuum? UGHHHHH

Driving yesterday in the 325 and if felt like it was strarting to run out of gas (intermittent hit on acceleration) So I topped off and it wen away for a tiny bit, but still happened intermittently so I went and got the simple things for a tune up (plugs, fuel filter, injector cleaner, carb cleaner for the ICV, seafoam etc)

    1. pulled one plug to realize that the cap on the plugs I got doesn't unscrew to accommodate the plug wires the car has, threw in the old plug (which wasnt that bad) and decided to just give it a go the next day when I got different plugs

    2. I noticed all of the boots were dry, so I added dielectric grease to all of them (one at a time to not mix them up)

    3. I pulled the FPR vacuum hose (after the FPR and before the intake) to try to find a spot to suck seafoam up into. Had the Mrs' start the car while I was pulling the hose off and it wouldnt start. The obvious explaination was that the fuel pressure wasn't regulated and the car wouldnt run without it unplugged. checked the condition of the vacuum line and it looked brand new, so i replaced it after cutting off a small section that was stretched out and threw on back on.

    4. car would not start after that.

    5. While she was cranking, I opened the throttle body and got it to rumble to a "start" and it ran, but really really rough.

    6. I got in the ccar and turned ign. off and on to prime the fuel rail thinking that there might have been air in the system or something. It kinda started after this, but still rough.

    7. I seafoamed the intake anyways and we went on a very spirited drive while smoking out the neighborhood and it ran GREAT..

    8. now it starts and dies immediately unless I am holding the throttle open and when it does run, its choppy under 2k.

I went over everything I could have touched, checked connections on all plugs at the block and dis. cap and all was well. no arcing plug wires or anything fun like that. nothing unplugged. no fuel coming through the fpr vacuum hose..

    WTF am i missing here?

is there a procedure for post fpr vacuum hose removal that I dont know about?

    thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

That sounds so much like intake leaks. Have a shop run a smoke test.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

but.. out of nowhere like that?? I will smoke test it (or carb cleaner test it) today. Thanks for the idea =)

how much seafoam did you suck up initially?

Initially, none.. It wouldn't start after I took off the fpr vacuum hose and put it back on again. I checked and rechecked and it doesn't leak..

After I got it semi-running, I used a about a third of the can and the rest went into the crankcase before the oil change

As Jim will tell you, carb cleaner won't find a lot of the smaller leaks that a smoke test will find. It's good for more gross manifold leaks.

You're probably right, I'm just baffled by the fact that it came about so damn quickly.. All I essentially did was pull one plug, put it back in, pull the fpr hose and put it back on. Checked and rechecked, both are tip top.. *shrug*

Sounds like your issue was coming on before you did anything. Disconnect the injector harness underneath the intake manifold. Clean it out with contact cleaner, reconnect and try again.

Sounds like an intake leak or possibly the connector I mentioned.

                  Also:

Check for spark at EVERY plug, not just one.
Use some sand paper to clean the contacts on your Main Relay.
Check Fuel Pressure and Fuel Rate as per Bentley.
Possibly swap out your ECU for a known working one.
                  Clean up your ICV
                  Check your CPS

^ Thank you for this. I'll go through the list and report back. Does the injector harness have a single main plug that links all six of them or do I need to pull each one?

Went through and changed all plugs, problem *seems* to be gone. Simple and stupid solution. Thanks guys

Reason I ask is you've gotta be careful when sucking up detergents via vacuum hoses - sometimes people don't pinch off the hose real good and let it draw real slow... this can cause hydrolocking sometimes.

Doesn't sound like that was the case though - most likely you had some seafoam puddled up somewhere in the intake causing the engine to run like shit. Sounds like all of it's been cleared out though.

In the future, make sure it's not pulling too much liquid too fast and to hold the rev's steady at around 2k or so.

it all happened before seafoaming her which is what confused me.

                          I:

                          1. pulled a single plug and realized that the ones I got don't have the diode cap that unscrewed so I put the plug back in.

                          2. disconnected the vacuum line at the FPR before the intake.

                          3. car wouldnt start with it unplugged, so put it back on

                          4. car still wouldnt start (it would while holding the TB open and would just idle horribly)

                          5. checked vacuum line for leaks/there were none

                          6. made sure that the plug wires were all on and not arcing and that all plugs were sparking.

                          7. seafoamed it anyways while it ran like crap and drove it around.

so, I essentially did.. nothing that would have caused it. Threw in new plugs today and it runs fine
