    Cruise control doesn't work

    86 325e.

When I press the clutch in with the engine not running, I can hear the cruise motor solenoid click. But once I start the engine nothing happens. Fuses are okay, switch gets power. bad control module?

Also what's the difference between the different control modules? Can I put a module from an I car into an E car? Thanks.

First to check is the speed sense wire behind the cluster. Its a single wire that comes off the harness and plugs into the green plug behind the cluster. I think the color is yellow/blue or blue/yellow. Make sure that is plugged in or the CC will not work.

Not too sure what your trying to ask. But cc is activated at 15mph if I recall. And there is a late and early model module, if its not disengaging ita the plug near the clutch pedal that need to be replaced.

Wish I would have known this before I ripped the cruise control outta the bay and underneath the dash.

Could be a bad brake switch or clutch switch.

Solenoid clicks when I press the clutch, resistance check on the switch says it's working.
Speed sense wire is plugged in, I noted it when I pulled the cluster to fix the odometer.
Brake lights work fine, but I'll check the wiring at the switch anyway.
Ordered a new control unit from eBay, after that I guess I'll just have to replace the unit itself.

            Thank you.
