Ever since it's gotten cold here in Tn, my power steering creaks like crazy at any slight turn of the wheel(when in parking lots). Once I get the car moving the noise goes away. It's been 30's and 40's and low 50's but the other day it hit 60 and the creaking went away and came back as soon as the weather went cold again. Any ideas? Fluid is full, and steering feels normal once moving but a little heavy when it creaks.
Power steering Creaking like crazy when cold outside, help?

You will need to remove the power steering fluid reservoir and clean out the filter on the bottom. New belt and fluid should then take care of the problem.Comment

Can't win here sometimes. They shit on you for not searching and they shit on you for bumping an old thread. God forbid, you double post anything ever. Then you're a real loser. Read the whole internet before you post, goddammit!Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"Comment

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I wish I knew this a year ago when it started happening with my 540i. I also wish I realized I could have likely stolen the reservoir from our racecar after we removed the power steering instead of ordering a new one...Comment
