I recently purchased a 1987 325e and I'm just curious about something the vehicle does on particularly cold days. When I turn the key to crank the engine there is an odd sound from the engine bay (sound reminds me of a fuel pump priming, but louder and in the engine bay) and it runs for about 10-15 seconds. During that 10-15 second time frame turning my key to start won't engage the starter and turning the key off does nothing to stop the noise. Once it stops on its own, I turn the key back to start and it fires right up.
I've read quite a bit into the ICV being the source of the noise but being as that I'm fairly new to this engine I'm just curious if maybe it's not an issue at all and something that is meant to happen in cold weather conditions. Times when the car has done this it has been sub 20 degrees fahrenheit.
Thanks for your time,
Jeff
