I've checked this thing out i've a Getrag 240/5 in my 318 and in my 320i
    and a 240/6 on my 2.3 engine
and I can't figure it out 'cause the 318 and 320i has the same box

edit : my 318 has a carburetor maybe it's a different story then

The 320i is lacking in the TQ department so they put a light duty unit in to save weight I would imagine.

        Thanks for the help ;)

so the 320i box will bolt on perfectly on an M10
and my 2.3 box on my 2.7(M20B25 origin) but with shorter ratios :?

The 260 will bolt to the 2.7 with out an issue but might need a sensor in the bell housing? (Eta guys) but I know it will bolt up without an issue. I have access to a super e car transmission for 55 euros if you need it.

The M10 I know absolutely nothing about except basic principals as I never want to own one. They should have been left in 02's. How close are you to Germany, slash Bitburg and the Nurburgring?

I still need that sensor ?
that Super Eta trans. has it longer ratios i'm interested
            I'm from the Aachen region

2.5e or 2.5i bottom end? The Eta's have a ignition sensor in the bell housing all i cars don't have those.

                I'ts an i bottom end
I've bought the engine by Kempower Motorsport they said it's an 2.5 with a diesel crank and shaved stuff etc etc
lets say it' a 2.5 i engine on the outside
but the problem is like you said the 320i box is an light duty and as far as I know is an 323i engine common with the 320i engine except the 10.8mm larger stroke
and the 2.5 engines are a different story
so I think it's the same box and can't bolt on a M20B25

True. 3.25 or 3.46 would fit the bill for a 325i, but you might want to hang onto the 3.73, would be a blast.

However, why do this? The feel of the M20 tranny is great, and you'll appreciate it more during high performance driving. The Getrag 250 (E36 318/325) and the ZF 310 (E36 M3) are more prone to downshift overrevs as well.

I love the M20 tranny's. I'd suggest getting another one if I were you. Used, they run about 1/2 what a used M50 tranny will.

The over rev issues have nothing to do with the trannys. They have to do with the shitty hourglass tranny bushings used on E36 cars.

Also, Getrag was the tranny manufacturer for M3's built after 12/95. Only early M3's had the ZF 310.

The early ZF boxes don't have the sticky 5th gear problem either and are bulletproof much like the 260 boxes in the M20's and other baby sixes.

If I were you, I would get a Metric Mechanic "Ultimate Transmission." They aren't exactly cheap, but they sure as hell are a blast.
