    Idle Control Valve ???

Does anybody know if you can clean the ICV on an M10 engine, or does it have to be replaced when it's bad.

My car will rev up and down between 800 rpm and 1500 rpm, but only some of the time. Other times, it's fine.

    Any ideas?

I clean mine out on a regular basis (every 6 months) with carb cleaner. Keeps it working!

I believe you have a m42...I think. Just undo the nuts holding it to the intake manifold and undo the top hose and the bottom hose and the electrical conector. Remove the unit and clean it out (carb cleaner). Install is reverse of removal. The bottom hose was a pain to get back on (for me at least).

On my m10, the car does the same thing. I've cleaned throttle body and ICV, adjusted valves, new injectors, new spark plug and wires, new o2 sensor, new cap and rotor and still there is fluctuations in the idling revs from 700-1500

Does anybody know where it is on the M10 engine? Is it under the manifold or on top of it?

I had a wierd idle for awhile too. Not like your guys, but different. Two ICV's and three ICU's later, I finally got it to resemble a normal idle.

On an M10, you can't miss the ICV. It's right on top...the black thing (I now have an aluminum one - there were two versions with the aluminum being the later one) to the right of the yellow transmission dipstick in the picture.

                Thanks for the pic, Bill.

How do you clean it, just take it off and spray carb cleaner into it?

Thats what I did the other day, spray the stuff through it untill the stuff coming out isnt black. I have an m20 ICV that goes straight through so it may be a little different.

My M10 idles at about 850 and fluxuates +/- 50 rpms. That's normal, correct?

                        I've got a M20, i'm guessing it's somewhat the same...

Yeah...about two years ago. I haven't touched it since (aesthetically, anyway).

Yeah Ken, that sounds like what my engine does. I guess it's normal.
