How do you guys do this? R12 replacements - the conversion to R134 or what?

    #2
Check the DIY section, there's a really good writeup on the R134a conversion process.

      Try Envirosafe. http://www.es-refrigerants.com/

I've been using their R12 alternative for over 4 years and my AC blows colder than my E46. Fantastic stuff and they have DIY kits.

Gregs, what product do you use on the website?

You can use the one meant for automotive with the dye or the one without the dye. The one without the dye is cheaper.

I believe it was this stuff.

However, I would call the company to verify before ordering. I believe their refrigerant is both R134a and R12 compatible.

Got it and tried it out today. My temperature started at 70 degrees from the vent and 1 can of stop leak, 2 cans of refrigerant later it stayed at 70 degrees. Before I use my last can I thought I'd ask...

Gregs///M am I doing something wrong? Here's the port I hooked up to it's the low side right?

I couldn't figure out the pressure either. From what I found you want 20psi on an R-12 system. Or 40 degrees on the 134a scale. Mine was up around 60psi the whole time.

Yea logically I would think that but that would mean it was over charged when I bought it? Could be. But the sight glass looked like it was under charged.

so can someone verify 20 psi is correct? I can't believe I'm that far overcharged.

sounds about right. I could be mistaken, but charging shouldn't technically be done by low-side pressure. Instead, it should be done by weight.
