all gauges except speedo dont work

doesnt this ussually mean a blown fuse? i looked at them and they apeared all not be blown and some werent there (accesories?) so i took one out and put it in the empty slots and still nothing. What else could be wrong? i am going to have another gauge cluster soon

no no don't buy anything untill you've checked your speedsensor unit and connector onto your gearbox, a bad connection is a common problem for E30's

i think it's the same fuse as the reverse lights, if anyone knows off hand which that one is
edit: that's probably where your short is.. the reverse light switch cable, it passes through the shift tunnel

Speedometer plug is located on your diff. make sure the plug isn't rusted out, and it's in good shape. Usually, water gets stuck on plug because it has rubber boot around it, and after while it starts to eat the metal, and usually thats what causes the speedometer plug not to work.

you can see it by pulling off the shift boot. pull it off and there should be a wire running through the rubber thing around your shifter, give that wire a good tug enough to move it about 1/2". replace the fuse and test to see if there's still a short, you can either run around with it like that or buy a new cable if that was the problem. hth

have you checked the sensor in the diff? that's usually the cause of a broken speedometer.

Sometimes the wire gets frayed by the sensor in the diff. Thats what happened to me.

It's definately fuse #10. I couldn't find any 7.5's though so I just put a 10 in and it has had no ill effects. Good luck with any future electric gremlins

dont you guys have BMW Owners Manual becuase i sure do and i always use it when fuses go out.

Very handy so grab 5 bucks and order one off ebay, yep 5 bucks and real handy.

                            Just a tip

                            Back to the topic.
