At a bit of a loss with coolant light and code

My coolant light came on the other day. No leaks, no fluid loss, no overheating, nothing to make me believe that anything is wrong with the system. Just to be sure I replaced my coolant res cap. The light is still on. I've driven the car all over the place and no coolant/overheating occurred. Hooked up the code reader, the only code that came up was : 1, DME self test. Don't really know what to do next or if I should be looking at replacing sending units. Any and all advice appreciated. Thank you for your time in advance.

if you're talking about the over head check panel light.. that indicates that your coolant level is low (or that the sensor isn't working).

Your coolant level sensor is bad, replace it and you should be good.

Either that or it is gunked up with stuff. It's a float, so if something is holding it down, it will turn the light on. Or the connector came loose or there is a broken wire.

If you are going to change the sensor, go with bmw. The Febi one didn't work out the box.

I just got one from Blunt. It is an inexpensive repair.

I've been trying to figure out with no luck, is it possible to bypass this sensor? like with the brake pad sensor?

Yes, it's the same way you test to confirm the sensor is bad. Install a jumper wire at the connector in place of the sensor.

That's what I thought. Also what is the engine oil light for? I changed mine and it's still on?

Do they often go bad? My oil level is fine.

The connector is brittle and usually falls apart.
