Cleaning engine block before new HG+ thoughts on copper?

Hey so I'm in the middle of a HG job, and I've gotten the head off to a machine shop for resurfacing.

The block is mostly clear save for some very thin residue. I've gotten all the big stuff off, but do I need to get every last little bit of film so the block is completely clean? or is a light going-over with a putty knife enough to get the job done?

Also using the copper headgasket spray. Recommended? how should I go about using it?

A putty knife may not be enough. Work over the block with a scotchbrite pad. If you use the copper spray, spray it on both sides of the gasket. It isn't really needed with an OE/OEM gasket, but it won't hurt.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I use a razor scraper, then chemicals. Baby's- butt smooth, and clean, or it won't seal.

I don't use sealers. I don't (usually) get leaks afterwards.

Just note that there will be "stains" in the mating surface that you won't be able to really get out without milling the block/head.

best shit ever for cleaning head gasket surfaces IMO. combo with a little bit of spray 9 and elbow grease, it'll be as clean as it's gonna get this side of a machine shop

Even if its not 100% required I like to get it as clean as possible for peace of mind..... I still think about the small spot I couldn't get completely cleaned

Well sweet, I already have scotchbrite laying around so I'll get to it then!

+1 on scotchbrite but keep the vacuum running to catch all the crud.
