    Fuel/Gas Tank Swap

    I've got an 88 vert with the two sender fuel tank that is in OK condition and I have a good condition single sender fuel tank outside the car ready for install. Should I swap them or would it be considerably easier to seal up the current one and put it back in? Also, I'm kind of stuck on getting it out. Everything is disconnected. But it is not coming down.

    Well, your fuel gauge won't be accurate any more, and you may have to do some intelligent rerouting of fuel/vent lines, otherwise it should fit just fine.

    Sure you got every bolt? There is one in the middle that is mostly hidden, rather obscured by the rear subframe. If you think you might be missing one just reference the holes on the other tank and look in all of those areas. Further, the tank can hang up on the DS bracket at the rocker panel that some cars have for a filter or pump.

    If all seems good just pry it down, do be careful as it will swing dangerously and is quite heavy if there is still fuel in there.

      I will check, feels like something on right side is holding it up, removed four bolts and one nut holding tank up. I'll take more pics when I get home. Is it advantageous in any way to use the one sender tank.

        Four bolts, one nut sounds right. I know it's basic, but did you disconnect the vent lines and pull them out?

        I can't think of any real advantages. If fact the dual hole tank is better overall as racers can add a second pickup pump.

            Yeah, I saw them, just making sure.

            The first time I pulled an E30 tank a prybar or some other sort of lever was required. It's certainly worth a try.

                Yes, it's disconnected at the metal pipe.

                    If you had removed all the bolts then use a floor jack to gently push the tank up. This will break whatever rust spots holding the tank to the car.

                        What is the hose on the fuel pump/sender that I cut, what part do I need to order?

                          That's one of the vent pipes, and it connects to the vapor tank by the fuel filler door. Should be easy enough to find on realoem or bmwfans.
