guys, the speedometer and the econo meter on my 87 es aren't working. every now and again they do function for a bit like when i hit a bump and she's warm.. are these soldered connections on the back of the cluster? if so, it should be an easy fix right? and if not, what else could it be?

Try reflowing the solder joints on the speedo and main pcb while you're in there."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

The cluster is easy to pull... there are DIYs out there. This was one of the first things I did with my car, actually. The temp gauge and SI board were FUBAR and the speedo wasn't accurate. I had two spares, and cobbled it together between the two.
Check the SI board too, and the grounding nuts at the back, while you're at it. If you need to find spares, just remember that the cluster you pull from HAS to be the same colour - there are two: Blue back and white back.
However, it does not matter if its VDO or MotoMeter - as long as the back is the same colour, you can swap components. Right now I have a MotoMeter Speedo in a VDO cluster, for instance.Estoguy
