I have a red wire from the positive terminal in the engine bay going somehwere I belive it goes under the intake manifold to the main relay. I have pictures below but I have no idea what to do with this can someone give me some direction on finding where it goes? Why it burnt up? And how to replace it thanks!

Give us the details on the car, year model etc. Search around on here because there is an electrical trouble shoot DIY somewhere and the repair manual for the car. You could unwrap the loom some more and trace the wire, check fuses, things of that nature. Does the car run? what is not working on the car?

Its a 1988 325i and I don't know what is not running because Im scared to start it because I don't want to burn anything else up.

There could be a couple reasons why that wire burnt up:
-Installed a higher impedance fuse because the required fuse keeps popping
        -Installed the wrong relay
        -something else, who knows

To be honest, that wire group goes to the + battery terminal and I believe it is for the starter...I can't quite remember. The bad news is, if you want to do this right, and will probably save you time in the long run, you're going to have to remove the entire engine harness, cut open the shielding, and trace the wiring. The good news is, it is not very difficult to do....I have replaced mine, and just mark the connectors and you'll be fine.
