    E30 Starting Problems

    Hey Guys,

Picked up my first E30 a few weeks ago. Its a 1990 325IS 135k miles.

90% of the time the car turns right over and starts up great. But a few times I have turned the key and it acts like the battery is almost dead. It barely turns over and then fires up fine. Although the radio code needs to be reentered. If I shut the car off immediately after, it will start up normally.

Today, I shut the car off to get gas and then went to start the car and absolutely nothing happened. I turned the get several times and nothing. Then finally it acted like the above and just barely turned over, but did start. Then as usually everything seems to work fine.

Any thoughts or things to trouble shoot?

    Much appreciated.

First check that the battery terminals are clean and on tight. Second, check the date on the battery...it's probably nearing the end of its useful life.

Along with checking your battery, you will also want to check your alternator.
