    Gauge cluster hvac issue

Hey guys just picked up a 318is. i had a bad resistor in the blower motor so i replaced that and my blower worked at all speeds. i also had a abs light on so i go to replace the relay and needless to say i could not find the realy. i found a relay that was a 4 prong relay just hanging under my ecu by a few wires. with a bracket on the relay. i looked above the ecu where the abs relay should be and it was not there. i figured i would mess with it later and i put everything together start the car and my tach, fuel, temp gauge dont work neither do any of my hvac controlls. when i start the car for a second the heat will blast and the tach will work then they all just die. speedo works thought. what could possibly control both the gauge cluster and hvac? head lights turn signals high beams abs lights all work. so i dont really know what to do. any help would be great as i am a noob to these cars at the moment.

    Thanks

ABS relay is above the ABS ECU which is to the left of the steering column. Don't know what the relay you found is - possibly something the PO put in. Did you leave it hooked up?

The abs ecu is above the cars ecu right? Its the orange box?

What he's talking about is the ABS brain, which is under the dash to the left of the steering column. If I remember correctly, however, late-model cars don't have the relay there.

Edit: Quick search reveals the ETM says cars from model year 90 on don't have a relay, at least in that location.

I just found that out myself. Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to check the sensors and wires see if there's a short or anything anywhere. Found the gauge cluster problem it was fuse 10. Also the lights on the whole right side of my ac control panel don't light up when I turn my lights on.

That's because of the bulb. There are two bulbs behind the HVAC panel; the left-hand one is just above the left side of the sliders and the right-hand one is above the A/C button. The easiest way at it is to remove the radio head unit.
