    Battery Light Issue

    Hey R3v,

Having a little issue with the battery light in the dash staying on.

I was working on the car earlier today and I happened to leave a door and the truck open for a while which left the lights on and the battery died on me. Had it tested and was told I needed a new battery so I bought one and installed.

I guess the plastic color coded covers on the terminals were on in reverse and I did not check the actual battery signs before plugging it back in. After I attempted plugging it in it sparked.

I plugged it in correctly the second time and noticed the interior lights, rpm tach, and radio were all not working. I Checked the fuses and replaced fuse 21 which fixed those issues. However the battery light remained on even after the keys were removed. I've tried unplugging and plugging the battery back in after 30 minutes and the light is still on.

Ive done a bit of looking into this and saw that a lot of people mention the alternator but I doubt it's that. I haven't been having any issues with battery drain before. I'm just wondering why and how I can remove the light that won't go out.

Like always, thanks for the help

If you hooked the battery up backwards, yes, there's a fair chance you fried the alternator.

It's always attached to the battery, so the minute you got the spark, that would have been it.

If everything else works fine, go get the alt tested....

So I tested the battery and yes the alternator isn't working. It remained at 12.4v when the car turned on so it's not charging.
So all I need to do now is replace the alternator and problem solved?

Check your voltage regulator first before replacing the alternator.

Removed and had the alternator tested and confirmed that it wasn't working. Got a new one in and everything looks fine now and fully functioning. Very easy install thanks for the input guys
