    Power steering rack leak

So I have a 1990 325is I purchased without the power steering belt attached. After putting one on today and trying to locate the leak it was obvious where the fluid immediately comes gushing out from. Right here....

No furthermore I look online at pictures and then walk over to my 1993 E30 vert and that rack has a threaded cap on it. In the photo I removed it. This rack that is leaking isn't threaded for any sort of cap. Am I missing something? Or are my seals just completely shot?

    Thanks for any input.

Seems that's the reason why the belt was removed because your rack is most likely shot.

I'm aware the rack is leaking and that's why the belt was removed. What i'm trying to figure out is there supposed to be a backing plate of some sort for that piece? I cannot find anything in diagrams or other pictures online from realoem to all data.....

The missing cap is only a dust cap, your seals are shot. Seal kits are ~$80 but not for the faint of heart.
