    ate powerdiscs and pre-cleaning?

ok, I just got my rotors and rear pads in the mail today.

so I decided to start cleaning off that sticky gunk from the rear rotors, and as I start wiping off the front rotors, I notices a piece of paper inside the box that said "do not clean off anti-corrosive, ready to install" ?? this was after I lightly wiped the fronts w/ a rag and denatured alchohol. o well.

what's this anti-corrosive that they put on there and why shouldn't I wipe it off? not that there was much to wipe anyways. the disc was relatively clean w/ some white stuff still stuck to it which I didn't wipe off.

Also, what's the best spray to use when cleaning off the entire braking area? and should I take a power drill w/ a rust remover pad to the rusted hub b4 I mount the new discs?

That "anti-corrosive" grease is a bunch of bull. Spray it down with brake cleaner (CRC, Zep, whatever) and wipe with a clean rag.

It doesn't matter what you use to clean the hub surface so long as you get the rust off, though I've always used a scuff pad.

its cosmoline. Clean all that off with brake cleaner and then scour down the hats and spray just the hats (any non friciton surface) with silver manifold paint.

I did that a long time ago and it keeps the hats from rusting and looking narsty. Thye looked new after 20k miles except for the rust in the grooves after sitting for a while.
      Im now E30less.

Yeah, next time I change my rotors, I will probably do the same. Where can I pick up some of that paint? Anything special about it, do I basically need high heat paint?

I used high temp engine paint (aluminum color).

I just left the rotor surface alone and painted the centers. no problems at all. :)

hmm, I wonder what it'll look like if I paint them the same color as my calipers when I paint my calipers... ^^

if oils from your hands get on the rotor they will soad into the rotors/pads.. wit the coating you wont get the oils saturated into the pad... basically helps stop from squeaking after instalation

Actually the primary job of the cosmoline is just to keep the rotors from rusting during their shelf life.

BTW, it's not cosmoline. cosmoline was on the OEM ate blank rear rotors that I got... but I cleaned that shit off.

the Ate PowerDiscs did NOT have cosmoline on them, but this white chalky stuff that was in some of the grooves and along some of the edges, which looked like it was sprayed on and some of it collected at one edge since the rotor was prolly upright.

oh well, anyways... any oil from your hands would easily burn off the moment you start braking, so i don't htink that would soil the pads or anything like that.
