Got lucky with the timing belt failure...

I just pulled off the head and took a look at the pistons to see what kind of carnage the broken t-belt caused. The biggest sign of any impact at all was that the valve reliefs on a few of them had the carbon deposits knocked off. Other than that none of the pistons show even the smallest nick or gouge. The cylinder walls actually look brand new. 183,000 miles on it and I can still clearly see the crosshatch pattern.

The head itself is a little worse off. Pretty much every valve is at least a little bent, and of course the one rocker arm is broken. Other than that it too looks pretty good. All in all its a pretty damned good for a broken timing belt...

makes you wonder why they didn't make the valve reliefs a little bit bigger, eh?

sorry to hear about all that bro, it's crazy, I just posted a thread on how had I not decided to change mine (recently bought the car) I would be in the same situation if not worse....
