Engine/performance upgrades on a car with previously damaged subframe mount

Hello everyone, for reference, here is the issue I'll be asking about: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=335005

I was able to fix the mount. I cut the whole thing out, set it straight and re-welded it. I've been driving the car for a few months now and it feels perfect and subsequent checks have showed that nothing has cracked since the repair.

So my question is this: with this previous damage, is it wise to start making this car more performance oriented? I'm not talking race car but a nice spirited driver. Future plans would be a slightly lower ride, a 2.5 swap, 3.73 LSD and of course upgraded bushings, etc. I want to make sure I'm not stressing that area with the additional power and different suspension angles than stock.

I'm not a crazy driver and I don't think I'll ever autocross it but I would like to make some spirited runs through the North Georgia mountains in the future.

Let me know what you think. I'm just trying to reassure myself that it's not going to to be a big deal!

My take is if you double and triple checked sturdiness, and feel comfortable that it won't fall apart, then go ahead and do whatever you want. At this point it may even be better than stock.

There was a thread somewhere about a kid off roading his ix and he ran into the same problem you have. He thought he had a toyota 4x4 but it turns out he only had a bmw. The point is you can always make something more sturdy, so I say go for it. As long as you've doubly reinforced the damage.

      It's your car, right?

I guess I just needed to hear that it would be alright from someone else. I don't have a problem making the car what I want it to be; however, I didn't want to dump a bunch of money into a car that won't be able to take the additional stresses.

I welded the crap out of it so I guess it's not going anywhere! And I don't see any off-roading in my future so all's well!

I mean if it's an issue down the road you could always unbolt everything and put it all onto a new car. That's what keeps me going sometimes ;)

That's not a usual failure spot on these cars- if you did a decent job, don't worry about it!
