guys, my blower is acting up. she is intermitingly cutting out. she'll run just fine, then after a while start to fade in and out of operation in all speeds. she'll blow, then slow down, pick up, slow down and even stop on the lower speeds. turn it off, then back on and the cycle continues. is it the motor or could it be the resistor? i was under the impression that she will still operate properly on high with a bad resistor.

If it fades out in the highest setting then it's your motor.
The resistor is made of up a few metal coils, with each coil stepping the voltage down so that the blower won't blow as fast. One by-product of resisting voltage is heat, and through years and years of getting hot and cooling down, the coils crack and separate and don't allow voltage flow anymore, which is why it won't work in the lower settings. Setting 4 by passes these coils and is a straight shot through to the motor, so if your motor is going in and out in the highest setting, it can't be the resistor.
I had a Saab 9000 a while back and the blower motor would go in and out. Sometimes it would work okay, sometimes it would work and then cut out, and others it wouldn't work at all. Replacement of the motor solved the problem as that car had automatic climate control and no resistor.
