    Funk Idle

OK, i never really thought about my idle until i test drove another e30 recently. I had always assumed it was funny because it was such an old car. But now i am beginning to think there is something wrong with it. When i start the car up, it idles around 1k fine. As soon as i put it in gear, it wants to drop below 500 rpms until i get moving, then it's quite normal. Also, when the engine warms up, it Idles around 1500 sometimes. I ahve checked my ICV and it seems to be ok, does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. Please excuse my complete lack of grammar and spelling, as it's very late here and i'm a tad tipsy.

it should idel around 850 or something like that. you prolly just need to adjust your ICV if it's idling at 1500...

It only does it when it warms up to operating temp. though. I'm thinking the Previous owner fudged with the Throttle body settings.

Yeah, mine does that too, but only rises to 1500 when I start moving. I think the ECU does that on purpose to warm up the car. It also does that on my friend toyota tacoma, so I think that is just normal...

it is not normal. your car should idle around 900-1000rpm for a couple minutes when it's cold, and then drop down to 600-650 (depends if you have an auto or a manual). 1500rpm is way too high.

Yes, when its cold or about 1/4th the way up the temp guage, its at 1k. When it reaches the middle of the gauge it bounces between 1300 and 1500. I'll look into it more when i get time this weekend.
